The Cantonal Civil Protection Administration has warned all legal entities and individuals to take the necessary preventive measures against strong and stormy winds in order to protect the health and lives of people, as well as material and cultural assets, immediately in accordance with their competencies and obligations prescribed by the Law on the Protection and Rescue of People and Material Assets from Natural and Other Disasters.

This means preparing adequate forces and material and technical resources for a rapid response to the announced strong and stormy winds, as this will create the conditions for a more efficient and faster response by all entities of the protection and rescue system in a comprehensive response to potential challenges and threats from strong winds, and thus avoid major material damage, as well as possible injuries and human casualties.

The Federal Hydrometeorological Institute has issued an “Orange Warning” for strong to gale force south and southeast winds, speeds between 60 and 80 km/h, locally 90 km/h for the time interval from 16 April from 12:00 to 17 April at 19:00, which will affect the entire territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The KUCZ specifically appeals to legal entities carrying out work on construction sites not to leave objects that could fall from the roofs of buildings, construction scaffolding, etc. due to strong winds and thus endanger the safety of passers-by.

“We also appeal to our fellow citizens not to leave objects on their balconies and other open spaces that could endanger the safety of passers-by due to the wind, not to park their vehicles near large trees, and to avoid excursions and spending time in nature during the orange warning period. We especially appeal to the municipal civil protection services from the Sarajevo Canton to immediately put their organized protection and rescue forces on alert, so that they are ready as first response forces, to react to potentially possible strong and stormy wind gusts in the territory of their municipalities, in accordance with their jurisdictions and obligations under the protection and rescue plans,” the KUCZ statement states.

The aforementioned entities are reminded that as soon as they notice or learn of a danger or phenomenon that may lead to a natural or other disaster, they are obliged to immediately submit all information about it to the Cantonal Civil Protection Operations Center at number 121, which operates continuously 24 hours a day – the KUCZ statement states, according to the Protocol and Press Service of the Sarajevo Canton.
