The culinary guide TasteAtlas has published a video showcasing the list of the world’s top 10 pastries, with Bosnian burek notably taking the 10th spot, while the top position is held by Pazarske mantije.

The video highlighting the world’s best pastries begins with Bosnian burek, positioned at number ten.

“Although burek has Turkish origins, it has deeply embedded itself in the cultural identity of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), becoming a dish that is both a national pride.

Most locals assert that only the pastry filled with minced beef can truly be called burek, though the same specialty is also prepared with other types of meat,” states TasteAtlas on its website.

In first place is Pazarske mantije, which TasteAtlas describes as very similar to Bosnian burek in essence, but with a distinctly different shape – they are formed into small balls arranged in a baking tray.

In second place is Pastel de Belem, followed by Malaysian karipap, Greek Trigona Panoramatos, and the French croissant.

Greek bougatsa takes the sixth spot, while the remainder of the list includes Turkish katmer, Polish paczki, and Macedonian zelnik.

Social media users jokingly noted that the best pastries seem to come from the wider Balkan region.

Previously, BiH media reported on the skyrocketing prices of pies. Furthermore, they stated that the price of one kilogram of burek has surged to an astounding 20 BAM.

Other pies are slightly cheaper, but there is not a large difference in prices. For example, one kilogram of sirnica costs 18 BAM, while krompirusa and maslenica cost slightly less. Krompirusa is priced at 14 BAM per kilogram, and maslenica is 12 BAM per piece.
