The Potočari Memorial Center commemorates the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in and around Srebrenica, which was committed by Serbian forces in July 1995. Today, survivors of the genocide – witnesses, their families, numerous domestic and international officials, as well as citizens – gathered in the Memorial Center.

Jasna Tuholjkić, a woman from Srebrenica who buried her father and two brothers testifies to what happened during the process of finding the deceased loved ones.

“It can’t be described to anyone, imagine if you have a whole family and lose them in one day…..I was 19 years old, it can’t be described to anyone who hasn’t experienced it. Why, what did we need?”, she said.

Samed Salihović, lost three brothers and survived the genocide in Srebrenica. Today he is saying goodbye to his younger brother.

“Only one brother has been found so far. We set off together on the way to Tuzla. In the village of Šušnjari, we parted, and I only had one brother to bury. I hope that the other two brothers will be found to bury them.”

Nedžad Avdić survived the shooting at the age of 17.

“It’s a long story. The two of us survived due to the carelessness of the Serbian soldiers. They refused to check whether everyone was killed. I was wounded. We managed to drive away and crawl away from the scene of the crime. We watched it all later. Collecting the bodies, loading the trucks .”

Mirza Bašić set out on the Path of Death with his brother and father.

“I went with them from Šušnjar to Tuzla, I was 15 years old, and after several ambushes we separated again. During one ambush, me and my brother stayed alone all night and I haven’t seen my father since. At dawn, when we started to run away, we separated and I never saw my brother again.”, BHRT writes.
