US Senator Jeanne Shaheen reacted to Milorad Dodik’s visit to Washington and called for the reintroduction of sanctions.
“Donald Trump’s administration should be ashamed of its decision to lift US sanctions last October on the (former, op. ex.) leader of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik. Mr. Dodik uses secessionist rhetoric and undermines the integrity of the Dayton Peace Agreement, which is in complete contrast to the Administration’s justification for removing Dodik and his associates from the sanctions list at the end of last year,” the senator said.
She added that Dodik’s visit to Washington clearly showed that he is not interested in putting the interests of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina before his own political interests.
“The Donald Trump administration urgently needs to reimpose sanctions on Mr. Dodik, consistent with the mandatory sanctions I secured in the latest National Defense Authorization Act,” Shaheen said in a statement.
Let us remind you that on October 29, 2025, the Ministry of Finance and Treasury of the United States of America (OFAC) made a decision to lift sanctions for Milorad Dodik and numerous other persons from the Republika Srpska entity.
