The Bijeljina-Janja camp inmates association, in cooperation with the Mejlis of the Islamic community of Bijeljina, today marked the 32nd anniversary of the crime against the inmates of the Batković camp near Bijeljina. As it was pointed out during the commemoration, this was the first camp established in Bosnia and Herzegovina and more than four thousand inmates passed through it.

The 31st anniversary of the demolition of the mosque in Janja and the 11th anniversary of the construction of the memorial to the martyrs and civilian victims of the war in these areas were also marked.

More than 4,000 inmates passed through the Batković camp, and at least 80 prisoners were killed, it was pointed out at the commemoration of the 32nd anniversary of the crimes in the camp.

The population of Janja and the surroundings of Bijeljina were taken to forced labor, to the front lines and used as human shields.

This camp was closed at the beginning of 1996 after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, BHRT writes.
