The British will join U.S. Sanctions against corrupt Individuals in BiH

The Embassy of the United Kingdom (U.K.) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) said that the U.K. would strongly support the U.S. and other partners in sanctions against corrupt people in BiH.

This statement comes after the stories from the last few days about U.S. sanctions against BiH citizens for whom there is evidence that they are corrupt, which means that they have achieved personal gain, and against politicians who in that wayundermine the Dayton Peace Agreement.

“The U.K. is committed to fighting corruption in BiH, along with those who share our commitment, including information exchange and building and strengthening of the capacity. We fully agree with the U.S. and our other partners on working more to promote transparency and preventing corrupt individuals from benefiting from their criminal activities and providing support to those working to eradicate corruption, ” it was announced by the U.K. Embassy in BiH.

Finally, it was pointed out that the partners will also use sanctions when and where they assess that they will be most effective, based on evidence, and will be directed towards those responsible for serious corruption.

Moreover, British Ambassador Matthew Field wrote that the U.K. is working closely with like-minded partners in the fight against corruption and that much more needs to be done in BiH.

To recall, U.S. President Joe Biden on Thursday nominated James O’Brien as the U.S. State Department’s sanctions policy coordinator. O’Brien must be confirmed by the Senate in order to take office, that is, to implement the sanctions regime, the so-called “black list”. What is interesting is that O’Brien is familiar with the situation in the Balkans because he has already worked in our region.

It is becoming clear that the U.S. is preparing sanctions against politicians in BiH, as evidenced by the latest statement from the U.S. Embassy in BiH, which points out that “corrupt individuals should be held accountable for a better future in BiH, Klix.ba writes.
