The Ceremonial Session of the KS Assembly was held in the Sarajevo National Theater last night, as part of the Sarajevo Canton Days event, where the biggest awards were given to this year’s laureates.
With expressions of welcome to those present, the Chairman of the KS Assembly Elvedin Okerić reminded that May 2, at the time of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, marked the attempt to occupy the building of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and divide Sarajevo into two parts, when the citizens of Sarajevo said a resolute NO and showed by their resistance that on these spaces have no place for human hatred, humiliation and separation.
– With that act, they sent a clear and strong message that they are determined to defy the fight against dark forces, and became a symbol of resistance to fascism. Sarajevo defended itself from brutal aggression with the courage of its sons and daughters, with its tolerance, uniqueness and spirit based on mutual respect, and as such will remain a place of interweaving of world cultures, customs and religions. Sarajevo showed Europe that it has always been a part of it, that it belongs there, and that May 9 is also its holiday – said Okerić.
He expressed solidarity and support for the people of the State of Palestine with the message that the ideologies of evil and hatred can never win over the people in the fight for true values, because Sarajevo and BiH are the best examples of that.
On the Day of Victory over Fascism, Okerić came from Sarajevo, a city which, as he said, was killed for 1,425 days in the name of the people who, even during the Second World War, protected the innocent, threatened at the cost of their own lives, a city which has always resisted ideologies throughout its history. evil and advocated universal and civilizational values, called on the world public, world leaders to do everything in their power to prevent the killing of innocents, women, children in Palestine.
– The Palestinian people deserve to have their own state, to build and live in the spirit of tolerance, coexistence, and mutual understanding on an equal footing with other nations. They said earlier that Sarajevo is the European Jerusalem, today I would like to say that Jerusalem can be the Asian Sarajevo, because Jews, Orthodox, Catholics and Muslims live together in Sarajevo – said Okerić.
The spirit of Sarajevo, he added, and the idea of multiculturalism can best be seen in our city, even though the ideology of evil wanted to kill it. We lean on each other and that’s the only way we can survive in the global world today.
– Understanding is the key to success, for all of us together. Let’s build our relationships, let’s get to know each other, the more we know about each other, the less misunderstandings there will be – said Okerić.
