Today, women in eastern Bulgaria marked the national holiday Rooster Day with a traditional dance, dressed in national costume.
Rooster Day celebration – Petliovden, when people sacrifice roosters, is a national holiday in Bulgaria that is celebrated on February 2 and is dedicated to the health and fertility of the male offspring of the family.
It is celebrated mainly in eastern Bulgaria.
The date of the celebration coincides with the Orthodox Christian holiday of Candlemas or the Presentation of Jesus in the temple, AA writes.
