The remains of 14 victims of the genocide in Srebrenica, which was committed in 1995, are ready for burial at the collective funeral on July 11th in the Potocari Memorial Center. This was said at the session of the Organizing Committee for the commemoration of the genocide in Srebrenica, on Tuesday, June 25th.

The youngest victim to be buried is seventeen-year-old Beriz Mujic, who was killed in July 1995 in Bratunac. His remains were exhumed in May 2023 in the area of the Municipality of Srebrenica.

The oldest victim who will be buried in Potocari on July 11th is sixty-eight-year-old Hamed Salic, and his remains were exhumed in Zepa in May 2014.

At the session of the Organizing Committee, it was stated that the number of victims is not final.

“In the Commemorative Center in Tuzla, there are the remains of 11 more victims of genocide who have been identified so far, but the families have not yet given their consent for their burial, mainly due to the incompleteness of the bodies of these victims,” said Adem Mehmedovic, president of the subcommittee responsible for media and information.

So far, 6,752 victims of the genocide have been buried in the Potocari Memorial Center.

At the session of the Organizing Committee for the commemoration of the genocide in Srebrenica, the problem of financing the commemoration of the 29th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica was highlighted.

“The municipality of Srebrenica did not provide funds as in previous years. We have promises from various institutions and municipalities and cities, but the funds we have received so far are not enough,” explained Hamdija Fejzic, president of the Organizing Committee.

All preparations for the organization of the three-day “March of Peace” from Nezuk to the Potocari Memorial Center, which is about a hundred kilometers long, have been completed.

The route will be the same this year and more than 2,000 participants have registered so far, RSE writes.
