On the occasion of marking May 22, the Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession to the United Nations (UN), the Sarajevo Memorial Center in cooperation with the Public Institution “Children of Sarajevo” organized a children’s event called “Bolje vas nala” today at the Children’s Square of Sarajevo.

The event was held as part of the manifestation “Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Igman 2024 – From Independence Day to Statehood Day”.

As part of the program, the present citizens and participants of the event were addressed by the former member of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the moment when our homeland was admitted to the UN, Mirko Pejanović.

Pejanović recalled that during the aggression, Sarajevo offered resistance that went down in history.

“Unfortunately, many citizens of Sarajevo gave their lives during the siege. The city was shelled daily, more than 11,000 citizens were killed, 1,600 children lost their lives. We gathered on the day of freedom, the day of peace to mark an important date in the history of our country. It is May 22, the day when Bosnia and Herzegovina received the decision of the UN organization to become a member of that organization,” said Pejanović.

He added that this is the highest thing that a democratic state can achieve in the historical development of its identity and statehood.

“This means international recognition of borders, recognition of subjectivity, sovereignty, independence, that is, the freedom of a country to independently decide on itself, its destiny, its peace and development,” said Pejanović, Fena writes.
