The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt said tonight that there are threats to the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that they come from the leaders of the RS.
“Threats to Bosnia and Herzegovina exist, because representatives of the RS continuously talk about secession, separating the entity from the state. Dodik recently stated that Bosniaks can have 25 percent of the territory. Some understood this as a space for ethnic incidents,” said Schmidt in to his address to the United Nations Security Council.
He pointed out that his mandate is to oversee the implementation of the Dayton Agreement and that he has the support of the Security Council for that.
“The Security Council has repeatedly expressed its support for my work. I am already looking forward to my report next month,” added Schmidt.
He referred to the presentation of the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, who made serious accusations against Schmidt, stating that it “does not respect the facts or the legal framework of Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
“I hope you understand that this is not a place to talk about insults, this is a place to talk to each other. I call for more accuracy, the only thing I see is malice,” said Schmidt.
He pointed out that as a high representative, he must be the guarantor of the existence of entities, which are parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has international subjectivity, adding that the RS is an integral part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Schmidt said that Cvijanović, attending the “The border exists” rallies, also accepted calls to block the administrative line between the two entities, which, he stated, was a violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
“As a high representative, I think that Bosnia and Herzegovina can get into a state of political instability, but this can be prevented by returning to the Dayton Agreement, especially when the EU offers the path of integration,” said the high representative.
He accused the leaders of the RS for the current political crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Tonight, the Security Council is holding a session where, at Russia’s request, the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be discussed.
At the beginning of the session, the Assistant Secretary General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas of the United Nations, Miroslav Jenča, said that since July last year, when the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina was discussed in the Security Council, positive but also worrying things have happened.
He stated that it was positive that in March Bosnia and Herzegovina was given the green light to open the negotiation status for EU membership.
He then stated that recently there have been troubling statements coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina, related to secession, denial of genocide and glorification of war criminals, which can have an impact on peace and reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Genocide was committed against Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina in and around Srebrenica in July 1995, and this was confirmed by the International Court of Justice,” he said, adding that all political leaders, as well as the media, should show respect for all victims. and to devote themselves to the reconciliation and stability of the country, Beta writes.
