Ada Avdagić won a bronze medal for Bosnia and Herzegovina in taekwondo at the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto. This is also the first medal won by Bosnia and Herzegovina in taekwondo in the history of appearances at the Mediterranean Games.

Avdagić, a scholarship holder of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, won a medal in the category up to 57 kilograms.

In the quarter-finals, she defeated the Spaniard Carla Sesar Vila with a score of 2:1, thereby qualifying for the semi-finals and securing a medal, OK BiH announced.

In the fight for a place in the finals, the BiH national team player met the Turkish Hatice Kübra İlgun. After a great fight, Avdagić was defeated by a score of 2:1, thus ending the competition with a bronze medal.

With this result, Ada Avdagić wrote a new page in the history of BiH sports and confirmed the historic success of BiH taekwondo at the Mediterranean Games.

Before Avdagić, three more representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina appeared on the mat yesterday.

Ibrahim Đonko in the category up to 58 kilograms won the round of 16 against the Lebanese Marco Zarifeh with a score of 2:0. In the quarter-finals, he was stopped by the Algerian Nadir Harbi, who won 2:0.

Benjamin Husić performed in the category up to 68 kilograms. In the round of 16, he was defeated by Croatian Marko Golubić with a score of 2:1.

Džejla Makaš in the category up to 49 kilograms qualified for the quarterfinals, where, after an uncertain fight, she was defeated by Andorra’s Naiara Linan Pardo with a score of 2:1.

The taekwondo competition for Bosnia and Herzegovina continues today, when Nedžad Husić will take to the mat.
