On 13 September, more than 40 EUFOR personnel from troop-contributing nations joined runners from Sarajevo and beyond at the Sarajevo Half Marathon.
For EUFOR participants, it was more than just a run. It was a chance to be part of the city, share the course with local athletes and visitors, and experience Sarajevo from a different perspective one kilometre at a time.
Together, runners made their way along Sarajevo’s wide boulevards, beside the Miljacka River and through the peaceful green setting of Vilsonovo Šetalište, closed entirely for the runners.
While our runners were on the course, other EUFOR personnel welcomed visitors at the EUFOR information stand. Throughout the day, citizens stopped by to chat, ask questions, and find out more about the people behind the mission and EUFOR’s work in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Events like the Sarajevo Half Marathon are a simple but meaningful way to connect not as uniforms or organisations, but as people who share the same streets, communities and love and respect for this country.
