In the courtyard of the Svrzo House, one of the Museum of Sarajevo’s annexes, the exhibition “Scents of Baščaršija” was opened. The exhibition presented 17 works by artists from eight countries, within the 14th International Art Colony.
The Art Colony Association and the Museum of Sarajevo organized the colony. From August 19th, the artists created in the unique setting of Svrzo House, one of the gems of Bosnian and Herzegovinian cultural heritage.
The project author and a leader of the colony, Mirsada Baljić, said that after the working part of the colony, the artists presented their works, emphasizing the importance of including young people in this project.
“In addition to affirmative and famous artists arriving from eight countries, we today have a workshop for the young, a children’s workshop. Every year we allow the young to come, to see how to paint and how professional artists do it, so that they get inspired by positive energy through art,” Baljić said.
Speaking about this year’s topic, Baljić said that artists interpreted the scents and atmosphere of Baščaršija in different ways.
This year, the painting topic is “Scents of Baščaršija”. The artists, in their own way, paint their works around one shared theme: the scents of Baščaršija. Everyone will feel it in their own way,” Baljić said.
The director of the Museum of Sarajevo, Indira Kučuk-Sorguč, spoke about the significance of organizing art colonies specifically in the Svrzo House, which provides a special setting and inspiration to the artists.
“Art colonies within a space such as the Svrzo House, which are traditional spaces, but outdoors truly show all the beauty of the house and culture of living, culture of residence in previous times, when we had peace, the greenery, when we were in touch with nature, when man was able to rest peacefully, and fill oneself with the colors of our plants, orchards, and everything that Svrzo House has to offer,” she said.
Kučuk-Sorguč emphasized the importance of opening museum spaces for citizens and visitors, as well as their connection with different forms of artistic creation.
“It is very important for us to open up, so that we are not insular, like the museum culture used to be. It is important to open our spaces and showcase our items, artifacts, our museum structure, to share it with those who come here,” Kučuk Sorguč said.
The exhibition “Scents of Baščaršija” closed the 14thInternational Art Colony, through which artists of different sensibilities and experiences interpreted a mutual topic through personal artistic expression.
The exhibition will be presented in the courtyard of Svrzo House until August 25th, Fena writes.
