In Canton 10, a total of 50 work permits were issued to foreign citizens in 2025, while another 17 were issued from the beginning of 2026 to August 21, according to data from the Cantonal Employment Office in Livno submitted to Fena.

Of the total of 50 work permits issued last year, 44 were new, while six existing permits were extended. The work permits were issued for a period of one year.

According to the Office, the largest number of work permits issued in 2025 was to citizens of Bangladesh – 35. This is followed by citizens of Germany and Croatia with three permits issued each, Serbia and Brazil with two each, and India, Canada, Hungary and Slovenia with one permit each.

When it comes to industries, foreign workers were most often employed last year in the construction industry, for which 25 work permits were issued, and in the wood processing industry, where 12 permits were issued.

From the beginning of 2026 until August 21, 12 new work permits were issued, of which 11 were issued to Nepalese citizens, while one new work permit was issued to a Croatian citizen.

Nepalese citizens are employed in the meat processing industry, primarily in meat processing jobs.

In addition to the 12 new work permits, five extensions of existing permits were issued in the same period, so from the beginning of the year until August 21, a total of 17 work permits were issued, including new and extended ones.

The management of the Cantonal Employment Service states that the trend of employing foreign citizens has been present in the wider European labor market for several years.
