13224057_1770231676546842_1195710330_oOn the occasion of the 15th of May, significant date in history of the city of Tuzla, representatives of the City Administration Tuzla, Government of Tuzla Canton and the FBiH, veteran, party and non-governmental organizations, laid flowers and paid tribute to fallen soldiers and civilian victims.

To recall, exactly 24 years ago, on the 15th of May 1992, the legitimate police forces defended Tuzla from attacks of paramilitary forces of so-called Srpska Republika and the newly formed Army of Yugoslavia.

During retreat from the barrack Husinska Buna, paramilitary forces of so-called Srpska Republika, which was founded on the 12th of May 1992 in Banja Luka and was placed under the command of Ratko Mladic, together with members of the newly formed Army of Yugoslavia, attacked members of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) of BiH – Public Safety Station in Tuzla, who were securing the exit from the column from the city, exactly 24 years ago on this day.

When military column was leaving the city with military weapons, soldiers fired on Brcanska Malta and police was ordered to respond with fire to the fire.

In the battle on Brcanska Malta, according to the Foundation Truth, Justice, Reconciliation, were killed 3 members of the Public Safety Station in Tuzla and 33 soldiers from the column.

Federal Minister of Veterans and Disabled Veterans of the Defensive-Liberation War, Salko Bukvarevic, attended marking of the Day of Defense of Tuzla, and on this occasion, he said that every year, in the month of May, we remember the battles of defending our cities and all citizens of BiH.

“One of the most important battles for defense of the entire region of north-east BiH in May was the battle on Brcanska Malta, where the patriots of the city of Tuzla, although poorly armed, firmly stood in defense of their city. In March and April of 1992, we had in front of us everything that was happening in Bijeljina, Zvornik, Bratunac, Vlasenica, Srebrenica and other cities, in which the aggressor’s troops entered and committed the worst crimes which could happen,” noted Bukvarevic.
