13275078_1772964296273580_1375166547_oOn this day, the 22nd of May 1992, BiH became a full member of the United Nations.

War escalated in the country, but BiH diplomacy won a great battle – BiH was admitted to the United Nations.

Flag with the Fleur de lis, which was based on a symbol of medieval Bosnia and the Bosnian dynasty Kotromanic, fluttered in front of the UN building in New York.

BiH became a member of the UN on the basis of Resolution 755 adopted 2 days earlier, on the 20th of May. With this, as one of the successor states of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, it became a contracting party of all conventions and agreements that were ratified by Yugoslavia.

This is one of the most important dates in the history of our country. To recall, on the 20th of May, the UN Security Council adopted a decision recommending to the General Assembly that the then Republic of BiH gets admitted to the United Nations. The Resolution 755 was adopted, with which this recommendation was supported.

Today, BiH is participating in the work of the United Nations through the permanent representative offices in New York, Geneva, Vienna, and at UNESCO in Paris.

Flag with the Fleur de lis was used until the 4th of February 1998, when it was replaced with the current yellow-blue flag of BiH.
