The EU is considering the Facilitation of Residence for professional Drivers in Schengen

According to information from the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the European Union (EU) will today for the first time through strategic documents open the issue of the residence of professional drivers in the Schengen area, recognizing that the existing regime of 90 days in a period of 180 days does not suit professionals whose work requires constant mobility between member states.

Opening this issue at the EU level implies consideration of the possibility of extended short-term stays for professional drivers and other mobile professionals from third countries, while maintaining the security and legal standards of the Schengen area.

“This is the first time that a strategic turn towards our professional drivers, as well as those from the region, is being considered. If the new visa strategy is adopted, it will make our struggle in the coming months easier, although we cannot predict the final outcome,” said BiH Minister of Communications and Transport Edin Forto yesterday.

The Ministry has continuously worked on the issue of applying the rules of residence in the Schengen area to professional drivers from BiH and has discussed this problem on several occasions with EU institutions and relevant international partners, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH announced.
