The first migrant families are moving into the renovated building of the former student dormitory Borići in Bihać which served them as temporary accommodation during the past months.

In October 2018, the roof of the building has been repaired, doors and windows installed to provide protection against the rain and cold weather. Also, a fence has been installed inside and around the building. These activities have been financed by USAID/Office of Transition Initiatives and the European Commission.

With the financial support of the European Union, the reconstruction of the building’s third floor started on 29 October 2018. Migrants and refugees, who were accommodated in the facility, have been relocated to the nearby temporary reception centre Bira in early December to free the facility for a complete reconstruction. Within the construction works, interior and exterior joinery have been installed, new installations for water and sewage, sanitary facilities have been completely renovated as well as low and high voltage installations, all internal walls and ceilings, including thermal insulation have been repaired and cardboard partition walls have been installed.

In the past days, the International Organization for Migration in BiH (IOM) organized activities for art students of the “Nusret Keskin – Braco” Art School in Bihać who painted a room intended as a play area and a space for socialising for the children of migrants and refugees in Borići.

The project EU Support to Migration and Border Management in BiH is funded by the European Union in the amount of more than €7.2 million, which are implemented by the IOM, in partnership with UNHCR and UNICEF.
