After the two Trios most often mentioned so far, one in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and the other in the Republika Srpska (RS), the formation of a bloc of parties called the Five, with a Croatian prefix, is being announced: HDZ 1990, HRS, HSS, HNP, and HDS. The goal is to appear jointly in the 2026 General Elections, but also to defeat HDZ BiH. In doing so, as they point out, they would offer an alternative to the previous policy of nepotism and corruption. They say that they will also have a candidate for the Presidency of BiH.
To put HDZ BiH into opposition, reform of the Election Law as a means toward constitutional reforms, protection of the Croatian people, but also of all who live in BiH, is the intention of the five Croatian parties which believe that the Croatian National Assembly (HNS) has lost its original meaning and because of which they have frozen their status in that body. They now step forward as a new body, as a corrective within the Croatian corpus.
“The first goal is to win the elections and send HDZ into opposition. I believe that with the agreement of these five political parties – and I hope it will expand – we will show political maturity by the very agreement, and through our program, which we are preparing, maximum seriousness,” emphasized Ilija Cvitanovic, president of HDZ 1990.
“If we establish a political agreement on sincere intentions, we will offer new policies, and at the same time, we will offer new people who will be capable of implementing those policies in practice. Of course, those people will have to be intellectually capacitated and professionally qualified for the implementation of those policies. It will not happen as it did in the past that doctors become ministers of traffic and communications,” said Slaven Raguz, president of the Croatian Republican Party.
The time has finally come to stand up to those who trade with national interests, says the president of the Croatian Republican Party, who believes that the need has arisen to create a political bloc that will be an alternative to the previous policies that wanted to turn the Croatian people into a minority.
“We must take responsibility, we must show people that within the Croatian people there is an alternative, there are people for whom expertise, knowledge, and skill come first, for whom political principles come first, and not clientelism, corruption, and nepotism,” added Raguz.
The new coalition is not directed against anyone. It is directed at equality and concrete projects in areas with a Croatian majority, they say in the HSS. The Five, which should be agreed in about a month, has been wished good luck by the first man of HDZ and HNS.
“After years of outvoting and imposition, it is time for the Croatian voice to be united with new policies that we will offer. In Croatian cantons, there is pluralism, and at higher levels, we strive to have an agreement with HDZ, but I hope that the Five will have a clear position that we will go with joint candidates who are the best among us. HSS will request that egos be set aside and that we find the best candidates among us who will be a refreshment on the political scene of BiH. There is also the question of an agreement with HDZ, which always calls for unity. Of course, unity must exist, but we must choose the best among us,” stated the HSS secretary general, Mario Susnjar.
“There are many trios, fives, so I will not talk like that, but I welcome the colleagues who have met to seek some solutions. I am convinced that they are thinking about the good of the Croatian man if they speak, above all, in the name of the Croatian people, that is, that they clearly see the vision of the future as this large group of people that came out in the name of the HNS sees it, as the Croatian Democratic Union of BiH sees it,” said the president of HDZ BiH, Dragan Covic.
Although it is difficult to predict the results a year in advance, Cvitanovic believes that this bloc will be an unavoidable factor in all processes at all levels in BiH.
