The former President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović informed the competent authorities that he had received information that an assassination attempt was being prepared against him, his office reported to the Podgorica newspaper “Vijesti”.

Late last night, the police administration told “Vijesti” that it had no data that would indicate a threat to the security of the former president, and the National Security Agency did not respond to “Vijesti’s questions about it.

When asked whether anyone from the security sector informed Đukanović that his security was at risk, that is, that an assassination attempt was being prepared against him, Đukanović’s office replied that he had received information about this from “certain international officials from the intelligence community and had is state authorities”.

It was not said who and when Djukanovic was given this information.

A source close to Đukanović said that a “senior foreign military official from Kosovo” informed him that an organized criminal group from “a neighboring country” was allegedly planning an assassination “in conjunction with the security services of another neighboring country”.

The police administration announced that according to Article 18 of the Law on the President of Montenegro, upon termination of office, the president has the right to permanent personal security in accordance with the security assessment established by the National Security Agency in accordance with the law.

Answering the question of whether Đukanović’s security has been increased, his office has announced that it has been reduced by canceling the day shift security at the former president’s place of residence.

They stated that the security services did not call Đukanović or his security coordinator for an interview to point out the potential danger.

“There was no initiative for a conversation by the representatives of the security services,” Djukanovic’s office told “Vijesti”.
