The G7 called on Iran not to support Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis

The defense ministers of the Group of Seven most industrially developed countries of the world (G7) today called on Iran to stop supporting the Palestinian Hamas, as well as its allies from Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen, who are engaged in separate fronts against Israel.

The G7 “calls on Iran to refrain from providing support to Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and other non-state actors, as well as from taking any additional measures that could destabilize the region and initiate a process of ‘uncontrolled’ escalation,” the joint statement said after the meeting in Naples, since Italy chairs the G7 this year.

The ministers called for a “significant and sustained increase” in humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, which is in the grip of a severe food crisis due to the war between Hamas and Israel.

“The G7 countries are united in their support for the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, a significant and sustained increase in humanitarian aid flows across the Gaza Strip and a path towards a two-state solution,” said a joint statement by the ministers of the Group of Seven, which includes the U.S., France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Great Britain and Japan.

The ministers also confirmed their “unwavering” support for Ukraine, including military support.

“We reaffirm our unwavering support for the freedom, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as long as necessary. We emphasize our intention to continue providing assistance to Ukraine, including military, in the short and long term,” the joint statement added.
