The Minister of Health of the Sarajevo Canton, Enis Hasanović, visited health institutions in the Canton in order to learn about the functioning of the health system and the situation on the ground in the conditions of difficult weather conditions caused by snow, freezing rain, ice and low temperatures.
The Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton informed the public that the health system is fully functioning, that all health institutions are working, and that health services are available to citizens without interruption.
They state that all emergency medical assistance interventions were carried out without problems, and all vehicles of the Sarajevo Canton Emergency Medical Assistance Institute are equipped with 4×4 drive, which enabled smooth operation even in the most demanding conditions.
Also, all regional outpatient clinics of the KS Health Center are accessible, and their entrances are cleaned and passable, parking spaces are not completely cleaned, but this does not affect the availability of health services.
Furthermore, General Hospital “Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš” and KCUS have cleaned entrances, and are fully functional and accessible to patients; the hilly and hard-to-reach parts of Sarajevo Canton are covered, and all patients who needed medical intervention were taken care of on time.
The Mountain Rescue Service (GSS) made ten vehicles available, and additional resources were offered from Civil Protection and other services that are not currently needed, given the stable functioning of the system.
The GSS and the ATV club remain on standby and available to health institutions should the need arise; and KJKP “Rad” continuously carries out manual and machine cleaning of snow and ice, as well as sprinkling with anti-icing agents on the approaches to health institutions and pedestrian areas.
In addition, the Patrol Service of the Institute for Health Protection of Women and Maternity regularly performs all visits to mothers and newborns, including the hard-to-reach areas of Sarajevo Canton.
The Ministry of Health of the KS especially emphasizes the contribution of all people on the ground – health workers, emergency services, patrol services, communal services and partner organizations, whose work in extraordinary circumstances is crucial for preserving the health and safety of citizens.
“All health institutions are working and the system is functioning stably. I visited the institutions and the situation on the ground is better than in many areas in the region. Thanks to the preparedness of the system, doctors and people in the health sector, all interventions were carried out without problems. Thank you to everyone who contributes to adequate health care,” said Hasanović.
Given that extremely low temperatures and icy conditions are expected in the coming days, the Ministry of Health of KS appeals to citizens not to move without an immediate need and to follow the advice of doctors, including not keeping hands in pockets when walking on icy roads, in order to reduce the risk of falls and injuries.
The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation and, in cooperation with all competent services, take the necessary measures so that the health system remains stable and accessible to all citizens of Sarajevo Canton, reported the KS Protocol and Press Service.
