The Hungarian Minister of Defence, Dr. Tibor BENKŐ, visited EUFOR HQ, at Camp Butmir, on 6th December 2018.

COMEUFOR, Major General (Maj Gen) Martin DORFER, welcomed Dr. BENKŐ to Camp Butmir, where he inspected the Honour Guard and met senior EUFOR HQ staff.

Dr. BENKŐ was accompanied during his visit by the Hungarian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, His Excellency Krisztián PÓSA, Maj Gen Zoltán MIHÓCZA, and Maj Gen László DOMJÁN.

During an Office Call with Maj Gen Martin DORFER, they spoke in detail about EUFOR’s mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. COMEUFOR took the opportunity to thank the delegation for the continued support of the Hungarian Armed Forces and also praised the professionalism of the troops serving in the mission.

EUFOR Operation Althea is currently made up of soldiers from 14 EU member states and 5 partner nations. EUFOR contributes to the maintenance and stability of a Safe and Secure Environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina and helps to promote a climate in which the peace process can continue.

Security in the Western Balkans is a very important issue for Hungary, said today Hungarian Defense Minister Tibor Benko in Sarajevo after a meeting with Bosnia and Herzegovina Defense Minister Marina Pendeš.

He emphasized the importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina joining NATO, stressing that the country will have the support of Hungary in this process.

The BiH Defense Minister Marina Pendš stressed that today’s meeting was another confirmation of the friendship of the two countries, and that the Republic of Hungary has always provided assistance to BiH in a number of segments.

She stated that the main topics of the meeting were the European Union and NATO, and that the support of Hungary to Bosnia and Herzegovina was once again highlighted.

Pendeš thanked Benko for the contribution of the Hungarian Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the process of activating the MAP for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Minister Benko said that he was staying in BiH for the first time and that his goal was to visit the Hungarian contingent in EUFOR in BiH ahead of Christmas holidays, Federal New Agency reports.
