To date, more than 7,300 infected pigs have been euthanized on 209 farms where the presence of the African swine fever virus was recorded in the Brčko District, said Stevan Radić, head of the Veterinary Sub-Department in the Brčko District Government.

He added that there are several other farms in the District where the animals are not infected and that they are regularly disinfected in accordance with the prescribed rules.

Radić said that the situation in the District is calming down and that in the coming period he expects sporadic cases among individual pig producers.

“In parallel with the work carried out to suppress the African swine fever, certain activities are also undertaken to assess the damage and a Commission has been formed to work on the assessment of the resulting damage and we expect it to start paying the damages to farmers as soon as possible,” stressed Radić, Fena reports.
