The traditional, seventh in a row, international “Pekijada”, a competition in the preparation of under-baked dishes, is underway in the village of Ocevija near Vares.
30 teams from five countries are participating – two from Serbia, one from Slovenia, seven from Croatia, one from the Czech Republic, while the rest are from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and their task is to prepare the tastiest under-baked dish from veal, potatoes, and spices as desired.
Bosko Andric from the organizing committee of the event says that this is a beautiful and positive story and emphasizes the special socializing in a friendly atmosphere among the members of the participating teams.
“Pekijada” is also an opportunity to present the products of the oldest active forge in Europe, where, with the power of fire and water, masters make iron dishes in which food is prepared in the traditional way.
Thanks to the event, one of the three forges in Ocevija received the necessary “papers” for exporting products to the European Union (EU), which is a concrete positive result, Andric also said.
Visitors also have the opportunity to taste widely known cheeses from Vares, represented in many places in BiH and beyond.
The local community of Ocevija is the organizer of the “Pekijada” with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Vares.
