The Ministry of Education of the Canton of Sarajevo announced regarding the incident in front of the High School of Mechanical Engineering in Sarajevo and the High School of Metal Professions in Sarajevo, in which one student was wounded by a firearm, that they strongly condemn any form of violence.

The Ministry points out that it will make sure that the professional services of schools provide the psychological support to students and teachers needed to deal with stressful situations, through the engagement of the Mobile Expert Team for Crisis Intervention and the provision of advisory support to educational institutions in the prevention of violence/unacceptable forms of behavior and the protection of students.

The Ministry will receive detailed information from the school in order to determine whether all necessary measures have been taken to prevent unacceptable forms of behavior and protect students. In addition, the effectiveness of existing security protocols will be examined and, if necessary, additional measures to improve security will be implemented.

The Ministry appeals to the media to protect the identity of the underage student participants.

Parents are also urged to talk to their children about the importance of safety and non-violent conflict resolution, and to seek help and support from professionals at school in solving the challenges they face in parenting, it was stated in the press release.
