By hiring another 220 police officers, the MUP of Sarajevo Canton will approach the number of almost 1,000 new police officers in its ranks.

According to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica, this is the result of strategic thinking and investment in strengthening the police force in Sarajevo Canton.

“Another 105 police officers in the rank of ‘policeman’ and ‘senior policeman’ are retiring this year and next year. With new recruitment, we are continuing to fill the police force with the necessary staff and we are one step closer to fulfilling the set goal, that by the end of 2026, almost 1,000 new police officers will join the police force. We should not forget that these are motivated, educated, professional and very capable young people with whom we are strengthening our structures and renewing the ‘blood image’ of our of the police,” said Minister Katica.

The recruitment process of police officers in Sarajevo Canton is carried out according to transparent and open procedures. The general knowledge exam procedure is maximally digitized and protected from any kind of abuse, while in the part related to physical ability, candidates are selected based on the results in the disciplines: BEEP test, push-ups, sit-ups and standing long jump. Through a further competition procedure, candidates are referred to medical examinations, then pass security checks and finally go to training at the Police Academy. Training for the initial rank of ‘policeman’ lasts five months, and the competitive procedure for employment and training of police officers (until starting work) lasts an average of 15 months.
