The most brutal Attack on a Returnee this Year in Derventa

The brutal violence in the village around Derventa horrified everyone, and the returnees are now in fear. Marko Misic, a returnee, was brutally beaten while trying to protect his property – the forest. While doctors are fighting for Marko’s life in Slavonski Brod and its Brezici, a village next to the Derventa, silence reigns.

During the attack, 68-year-old Marko was seriously injured, which is why he was placed in the Intensive Care Department of the hospital in Slavonski Brod. In the attack on Thursday, he suffered injuries to his head, chest, lungs, and broken ribs. All because of what the locals, first of all returnees, have been pointing out for years about forest thieves with whom the authorities have no way of dealing, and who most often attack the property of returnees, of whom there are very few here.

Of the pre-war population of around 7.500, only 91 villagers live in the villages that gravitate to the nearby Franciscan Monastery Plehan. The Doboj police confirmed that this was indeed an attack due to the theft of the forest.

“The person with the initials M.C. and one minor were deprived of liberty. The aforementioned persons were handed over to the jurisdiction of the Doboj District Public Prosecutor’s Office along with the Report on the committed criminal act of “Murder” and they were ordered into custody,” the announcement stated.

The Doboj District Public Prosecutor’s Office is silent on the whole case for now. The family of the attacked returnee returned to the village of Brezici in 2015. Neither Marko Misic’s wife nor son wanted to be in front of the camera, but behind the camera, they talked about the difficult life of the returnees, the reconstruction they completed themselves, and the peace they were striving for. The whole village is waiting for news about Marko’s health condition, which is serious, but despite this, life goes on.

The community is silent for now. Attacks on returnees are becoming more frequent in both entities and especially in Republika Srpska (RS). The Ministry of Internal Affairs does not respond to inquiries about the number of attacks this year alone, but at least four have been recorded so far. This last one is the most brutal, N1 reports.
