The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate and congratulate the New Year to viewers in 81 countries of the world with the most popular concert that is traditionally held at the Golden Hall of the Vienna ”Musikverein”.
Eleven operas will have a premier performance at the New Year concert, among them will be the waltz by Johann Strauss Junior and Josef Strauss’s ”Hesperus trails”. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will perform some works by Wagner and Verdi for the first time. The conductor of this New Year concert will be Franz Welser-Möst, the general music director of the Vienna National Opera.
In the breaks of the concert, there will a screening of the film ”Honeymoon” directed by Patrick Pleisnitzer. The performances of the National Ballet were filmed at the Baroque Castle ”Hof”, which will be featured during the concert. The choreographer of the National Ballet is the director of ”Scottish Ballet”, Ashley Page. It is also announced that the great granddaughter of Josef Strauss, a 90 year old Hedwig Aigner- Strauss will be the honorary guest of the concert.
The concert will traditionally be broadcasted live by the Austrian National Television ”ORF”.
