The population of several hundred houses was evacuated due to floods and heavy rains across Britain, and the worst affected were East London and South-West and Central parts of England, British media reported today.
The floods have disrupted rail traffic in the affected areas, ITV television reported.
The London Fire Service said it had to move around 50 people to safety last night after a canal overflowed in the east of the city.
Heavy rainfall also caused a London ship that served as a floating bar, restaurant and night club to sink into the River Thames last night, television reported. There are no reports of injuries.
A major incident has been declared in the county of Nottinghamshire, and its residents have been urged to prepare for evacuation, ITV reported.
Several roads were closed in Gloucestershire, the report said, adding that an evacuation center had been set up in a small village in the north of the county, and residents of an island near the city of Gloucester were also urged to leave their homes.
