The remains of four victims of the past war are ready for burial at a collective funeral that will be held on Sunday, June 1st of this year at the Memorial Complex and Martyrs’ Cemetery in Memići – Gornja Kalesija.

Spokesperson for the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina Emza Fazlić told Fena news agency that this year, after the collective funeral, three victims without names and surnames, without established identities, will be buried, as well as one victim whose remains have been identified.

“According to the Institute’s operational data, when it comes to victims whose identities have not been established, it is assumed that they are victims of Bosniak nationality who were killed in the areas of Snagovo, Kalesija and Liplje during 1992. Their remains were exhumed decades after their deaths,” explained Fazlić.

She added that, unfortunately, it has not been possible to identify them all these years since their deaths.

“Namely, a DNA profile was isolated from the remains that were exhumed, but there was no match with the blood samples of the families of the missing persons. Therefore, they will be buried under the marks of the exhumations during which their remains were found,” stated Fazlić.

The remains of one victim, who will be buried under a special mark of the exhumation site, were exhumed in June 2010 at the Liplje site, Sultanovići hamlet, Zvornik municipality. The remains of the second victim were exhumed in 2013 at the Snagovo site, while the remains of the third victim were exhumed in 2018 at the Donje Hrasno – Kerovina site, Kalesija municipality.

In addition to these three victims, the remains of Osmanović (Ibrahim) Osman, born in 1926 in Caparde, Kalesija municipality, and whose identity was determined by DNA analysis and confirmed by his family members, will also be buried this year.

According to operational information from the Missing Persons Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he was killed in 1994, while his remains were exhumed at the Konjević Polje site, 30 years after his death, in July 2024.
