srebrenica2The resolution on Srebrenica, just like the genocide must not be subject to anyone’s personal opinion, not those who are for or against. It must be based on facts, the judgment of the ICTY, the judgments of the Tribunal and to the principles of the struggle for human rights, said in a speech to the European Parliament at a joint meeting of the Delegation for Relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, and the Working Group for the Western Balkans Committee on Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Belgium and Luxembourg Bisera Turković.

The meeting, which was also attended by members of the Association “Mothers of Srebrenica” was held yesterday, after EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn opened an exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide the previous day in Brussels.

In an address to European parliamentarians, “Mothers of Srebrenica” pointed to the fact that those who participated in the genocide are now working in the police structures of Republika Srpska, and stressed the impossibility of a complete and safe return to RS. They underlined the need to adopt a European Parliament resolution to condemn genocide and war crimes. They stressed the need to adopt legislation that will protect victims of war crimes.

Member of the European Parliament, Tonino Picula, the President of the Delegation for Relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, in his address stressed that the task of all of us is to fight for justice and reminded of the resignation of Tadeusz Mazowiecki, who, after the fall of Srebrenica in 1995, and disappointed with the lack of international response, handed his resignation to the first UN envoy in the war-torn Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In closing remarks by Eduard Kukan, Chairman of the Working Group on the Western Balkans of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the EU, said he will support justice and reconciliation and Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European path.
