The Sarajevo Canton Government adopted a proposal to increase the salaries of healthcare workers by an additional 10 percent at an extraordinary session today. This measure represents a continuation of activities to strengthen the healthcare system and improve working conditions in one of the key areas, it was announced.

The Cantonal Government reminds that in September 2024, during the validity of the current collective agreement, the hourly wage was increased from 3.07 to 3.40 BAM, which resulted in a 10.7 percent increase in wages. With today’s decision by the Cantonal Government, the base was additionally increased by another 10 percent, bringing the total increase in wages under the new collective agreement to 20.7 percent.

After the Government session, the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk stated that healthcare workers are the pillar of our society and that they deserve dignified working conditions.

“Today’s increase in the hourly wage is another confirmation of our commitment to building a stable, functional and fair healthcare system for all citizens in our canton,” Uk emphasized.

The Minister of Health of the Canton of Sarajevo, Enis Hasanović, emphasized that improving the working conditions of healthcare workers is a key prerequisite for strengthening healthcare and raising the level of services provided to citizens.

“Increasing salaries is only one part of the reforms we are implementing. Over the past year, we have abolished the payment of participation fees for healthcare services, resolved waiting lists for all oncology patients and ensured the availability of a new, expanded list of medicines that includes more than 700 forms of medicines. We consider today’s salary increase to be a fair offer in relation to all other departments within the Canton of Sarajevo Government,” said Minister Hasanović, according to a statement from the Canton of Sarajevo Protocol and Press Service.
