The second Conference of the Council of National Minorities of BiH in Sarajevo

The Council of National Minorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the OSCE Mission, is organizing the Second Conference of the Council of National Minorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be held today in Sarajevo.

This year’s conference will be devoted to the topic “Amendments to the BiH Electoral Law and political participation of representatives of national minorities at the entity and cantonal levels of government”.

The heads of the people’s clubs in the House of Peoples and the heads of the deputies’ clubs in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of state institutions that deal with issues of the position of national minorities – the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, the Ministry of Justice of BiH, and the Joint Commission for Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH were invited to the Conference.

Representatives of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, high-ranking officials of international organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina – OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, OHR, ambassadors of members of the PIC Board of Directors, the European Commission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Office of the Council of Europe in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as experts in the field of constitutional law and electoral legislation.

The conference will be divided into two panels, the first of which will discuss the legal framework, as well as the challenges and perspectives of improving electoral legislation in order to protect the rights of national minorities.

The second panel will be devoted to consideration of participation models and mechanisms of political representation of national minorities at different levels of government, in accordance with European standards.

The conclusions and recommendations of the Conference will be adopted at the session of the Council of National Minorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and sent to domestic and international organizations dealing with the legislative framework and implementation, as well as election monitoring in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
