In memory of the devastating earthquake that hit Banja Luka on this day in 1969, today at 9:11 a.m. the sirens of the city’s notification and alarm system will sound.

Sirens will sound for 60 seconds, the City Administration announced.

The earthquake destroyed a large part of the construction fund, caused enormous material damage, and in the three most affected municipalities – Banja Luka, Laktaši and Čelinac – took 15 lives, while more than a thousand people were injured.
86,000 apartments were completely destroyed, great damage was caused to school (266), cultural (146), health (133), social and public administration facilities (152).

The economy suffered significant losses. In the following period, all companies worked with significantly reduced capacities, and some completely stopped production.
