Citizens of Gorazde modestly marked the 9th of May, the Victory Day over Fascism, the Golden Lily Day, the Day of Solidarity with People in Detention and the Day of Europe. Traditionally, they laid flowers at the memorial “Gorazde – town hero to its defenders,” and officials, veterans’ associations and anti-fascists paid tribute to martyrs and the fallen soldiers, civilian victims of war and detainees that were killed. Flowers were placed on Martyrs cemetery and the Partisan cemetery in Kolijevke.
“The 9th of May reminds not only on the evil that fascism has done to humanity for more than 7 decades, but unfortunately, on the recent events from the end of the last century that were guided by the same principles of hate and intolerance. Today we celebrate the Golden Lily Day. Bravest sons of this country, together with other patriots and soldiers confronted, just like the partisans in WWII, to fascism and defeated evil and madness that threatened to destroy us all. Today we remember them all. We are obliged to nurture the tradition and to remember the heroic national liberation fight of our people, fight of our soldiers and heroes,” said Damir Zuga, Minister of Education, Youth, Science, Culture and Sport of BPC.
Instead of hatred and intolerance towards other and different, young people should nurture love and mutual respect, he said at the memorial to the fallen defenders of Gorazde.
“Let’s teach our children tolerance and understanding! Let’s teach them lessons and messages from our past, the unfortunate and tragic, in order for them to learn from it and their futures to be more beautiful and brighter than ours,” said Zuga.
Unfortunately, fascism is showing its face again in Europe, as stated by the members of the Association of Anti-fascists and National Liberation War of BPC.
“Fascism is unfortunately not defeated. The last events related to the refugee crisis showed the hypocrisy of Europe and its double standards and that the Balkan region, in the last 3 decades, is under the influence of revival of fascism. The old continent accumulated a whole collection of signs of fascism and individual German media point on this and emphasize that there is ringing alarm in Europe and that it should accept the fight against right-wing populism, which is becoming increasingly present,” said Uzeir Zivojevic, President of antifascists from Gorazde.
He reminds that humanity rarely knew to silence evil signes at the time, for which is proof the inability of reading signs that were ‘eye pain’ and the socio-political climate before the aggression on BiH. Fascism should be pointed on, because it requires constant human alertness and defense of peace for the sake of future generations, is the message of anti-fascists from Gorazde.
