The situation with African swine fever in the area of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina is slowly calming down, as no cases of infection have been recorded this week – the Department of Veterinary Medicine in the Government of the Brčko District confirmed.

The head of that department, Kosta Kojić, says that after four months of this situation with African swine fever throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, the situation in Brčko is finally calming down on the ground and there have been no new calls.

“Currently, on 249 properties in the area of the district where the presence of African swine fever has been recorded, a total of 10,594 infected pigs have been euthanized to date,” Kojić said.

As he stated, the members of the District Government Commission are still working on assessing the situation in households affected by African swine fever.

The crisis headquarters is currently working on making a decision related to the ban on the purchase of new pigs because in some places there is still a fear of the return of the African swine fever virus, Fena reports.
