The Spaniard Jamal is the youngest footballer in the history of European championships

Spanish football player Lamin Jamal became the youngest player in the history of the European championships, as national team coach David de la Fuente included him in the team for today’s match against Croatia. Jamal is 16 years and 338 days old, and the selector chose him among the first 11, in the first round of Group B at the European Championship in Germany.

Before Jamal, the youngest player to play at the European Championships was Poland’s Kasper Kozlowski, who was 17 years and 246 days old when he played against Spain in 2021.

If he had scored, Jamal would have become the youngest scorer in the history of European championships. That “title” is now held by Swiss Johan Vonlanten, who was 18 years and 141 days old when he scored against France in 2004.

Jamal’s contract with Barcelona expires in 2026 and he is considered the best player to come out of the club’s La Masia academy, after Lionel Messi.
