The Statue of Mother Teresa Ceremonially Installed in Sarajevo: An Example of Goodness for the Whole World

Mother Teresa Statue bhrt.baThe statue of the Blessed Mother Teresa was officially placed yesterday in front of the Church of St. Joseph at Marijin Dvor. The statue was donated by the former Ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Sarajevo, Flamur Gashi.

The Croatian Cultural Society Napredak, together with Cardinal Puljić, the former Albanian Ambassador and the Embassy of Macedonia in Bosnia and Herzegovina a few days ago organized the performance of a drama play about Mother Teresa, and the fact that the monument was raised a few days before the arrival of Pope Francis is called a “happy coincidence”.

Franjo Topić, the president of the CCS Napredak, said that the time of the installation of the statue is symbolic, since Pope Francis, who has a lot in common with Mother Teresa, is to arrive in Sarajevo in a few days.

The rising of the monument is a symbol of kindness to all people, especially to the weakest, the sick and the disadvantaged.

“There are many similarities between them.  Pope Francis has a lot of understanding for the poor, as well as Mother Teresa”, Topić said.

Topić added that Mother Teresa is one of the few positive people that had no-one against her.

“She has united many countries and nations.  She received the Nobel Peace Prize, and only she, as far as I know, was given a state funeral in India. She dedicated her whole life to those who are in greatest need. It is a phenomenon that she had not got leprosy, although she had been working with lepers for her entire life”, said Franjo Topić.

Don Luka Brković, the pastor of the Church of St. Joseph, explained that the monument is placed in front of this church with the intention of being a visible sign and a stimulus to goodness, therefore it was decided that this location is the best.

“The Pope has declared Mother Teresa the role model for the whole Church, and indeed for the whole world. She said that we cannot all be beautiful, smart, or important, but we can all be good. Here, from this place she will keep inviting and reminding us all to be as good as much as we are able to”, said Don Brković.
