The Story of the Neighbors’ Help confirms that Solidarity has not disappeared in BiH

At the beginning of August, the family of Mujo Gerovic from Bratunac was left homeless. Fortunately, there were no human casualties in the fire that wiped out their entire property. This is where the story of solidarity begins. Help came and the construction of a new house for the Gerovic family will begin next week.

The news about the fire, in which, fortunately, there were no human casualties, caught the Gerovic family in Zivinice, while visiting their son. They immediately returned, but found only a charred area. Everyone came to help, neighbors, colleagues of Mujo‘s son, they worked on cleaning.

There was Mladen from Kajici, Samir and Selmo from Hranca also helped. People helped to clean it. People help with material, clothes… I thank them, there are good people. People come from the side, give 50-100 BAM, as much as they can. So, it doesn’t matter who it is, and you don’t know the names, how will you know when you see a person for the first time, they come, they bring”, says Mujo.

“That kid whose house burned down works with me, we work in the forest, I heard from him, went to him, the firemen were on the spot, the children left the house barefoot, stepping on the glass. I tell him: Why don’t you give shoes to your children? He tells me that they don’t have any shoes or clothes. I call my wife, I take clothes from my children that matched them and from my daughter-in-law, I pick it up and take it to them. I take it and buy them something to eat. On the second day, we went to help them clean up,” says Mladen Djuric, a resident of Jezestica.

“Selmo Arifovic and I started with machines. We got up there, ten of us gathered, we cleaned up by noon. When the works start, I will go to help again”, says Samir Salkic, a resident of Hranca.

The Federal Ministry of Displaced Persons and Refugees reacted immediately. Material for the reconstruction of the house is provided.

“We did the analysis. Minister Ramic immediately agreed to finance the purchase of materials, and through a joint project of the Federal Ministry and the EMMAUS organization, they managed to coordinate that the EMMAUS organization finances the workers, craftsmen, so that the house would return to its original condition. We will start next week and the house will be operational as soon as possible”, says project coordinator Vehid Dedic.

Mujo Gerovic is grateful to everyone who came to help, and this story gives hope that solidarity has not disappeared and that, in difficult times, we can rely on our closest – neighbors, Federalna writes.
