This weekend, Sarajevo and its Olympic mountains will host more than 1,000 trail runners from over 30 countries around the world who will participate in the jubilee, tenth edition of the Vučko Trail, the largest trail race in Bosnia and Herzegovina. From June 19 to 21, Bjelašnica and Visočica will host the participants of one of the most significant outdoor sports events in the region, which has been successfully combining sports, nature, tourism and the promotion of the cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina for ten years.
“The ten years of the Vučko Trail represent a great success for everyone who was part of this story. We are proud that we have grown from an event that gathered several dozen enthusiasts into an international race that brings hundreds of participants from all over the world to our mountains every year. The anniversary edition is an opportunity to celebrate together everything that we have built over the past decade, but also to continue developing the Vučko Trail as a recognizable sports and tourism brand of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Dalvin Kadirić, president of the Mountaineering Society. This year’s program includes five trails of different lengths and difficulty: Black (105 km), Red (60 km), Blue (40 km), the new Yellow trail (26 km) and Green trail (14 km). The trails pass through some of the most beautiful areas of Bjelašnica and Visočica, connecting mountain peaks, ridges, valleys, stećci and traditional villages, including Lukomir, the most populated place in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Over the years, the Vučko Trail has outgrown the framework of a sports competition and has become an event that uniquely connects sports, tourism, the promotion of natural beauty and the cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The combination of the ultimate sporting challenge and authentic mountain ambience is one of the reasons why a large number of participants return to Bjelašnica and Visočica year after year.
