The UN Security Council held closed consultations dedicated to the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As our Ivica Puljić has learned, all members of the Council – with the exception of Russia – expressed their clear support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the preservation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
Russia was the only delegation that raised the issue of the continued existence of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) and the role of the High International Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to sources from the UN, the talks were focused on two key topics: threats of secession, which are interpreted as undermining the peace agreement, and the problem of Islamophobia.
At the beginning of May, a regular half-yearly session of the Security Council is expected, where the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be discussed again. On that occasion, the high representative will submit a report on the situation in the country for the past six months.
