The Government of the United States of America expressed “concern and disappointment over the uncoordinated actions taken by the Government of Kosovo, which have a direct and negative impact on members of the Serbian community and other minority communities in Kosovo.”
According to the announcement of the US Embassy in Kosovo, according to the order of the political authorities of the Government of Kosovo, on August 30, the Kosovo police carried out operations against institutions supported by Serbia in North Mitrovica, Zvečan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic.
“Issues concerning structures supported by Serbia in Kosovo should be resolved through dialogue under the auspices of the European Union. This action was not coordinated with any element of the international community,” the statement said.
The United States of America and international partners consistently ask the Government of Kosovo to prioritize coordination with the international community and not to take unilateral actions on issues that are on the agenda of the dialogue under the auspices of the EU.
“The failure of the Government of Kosovo to respond to these demands reflects a real and growing deterioration in our partnership. As we noted earlier, the uncoordinated actions of the Government of Kosovo put the citizens of Kosovo and KFOR soldiers at greater risk, unnecessarily increase regional tensions and undermine Kosovo’s reputation as a reliable international partner,” the statement added.
Although the United States Government is proud to have supported the establishment and professionalization of the Kosovo Police for years as part of our commitment to promoting security and stability, the continued instrumentalization of the Kosovo Police by the Government of Kosovo to carry out uncoordinated actions is inconsistent with Kosovo’s promises to “continue consultation and coordination with the international community”, they state.
“The Government’s actions will also affect the quality and nature of our cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its subordinate elements,” the statement pointed out.
US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien also made his comment on the X social network:
“As is clear from the statement of the US Embassy in Kosovo, the US is concerned about the continued uncoordinated and provocative actions of the Government of Kosovo. We appreciate the work of those, including EULEX and KFOR, who prevent violence and call for continued restraint by all involved and affected. We call on the Prime Minister Kurti and his government to consult and coordinate with the international community and to stop uncoordinated actions that negatively affect our partnership”, Klix.ba writes.
