The summer vacation season is in full swing, and most tourists choose sunny beaches and refreshments in the sea for their holidays. Some, however, opt for inland waters, enjoying the freshness of lakes and rivers. For all of them, there is good news: The vast majority of European bathing sites have “excellent” water quality, according to a new report from the European Environment Agency (EEA).

For sea bathing, Croatia has the most divine salty water, followed by Cyprus, Greece, and Slovenia. Belgium and Bulgaria are tied for fifth place.

Regarding inland waters, Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland, and Romania are in the top position, while Austria and Finland are not far behind.

For the overall cleanest waters, Cyprus has taken the gold, followed by Austria in second place and Croatia in third.

The quality of the Seine River water in Paris has come into focus after the city spent 1.5 billion dollars on cleaning the river for the Olympic Games.
