Three Earthquakes hit Santorini, Ground continues to shake

Three earthquakes, two of which had a magnitude of 4.1 on the Richter scale and one of 4.4, were recorded early this morning in the sea area off the Greek island of Santorini.

According to data from the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the tremors occurred around 5 am this morning in the area between the islands of Santorini and Amorgos, Greek media reported.

All three earthquakes were characterized as weak, and seismologists do not expect stronger tremors. According to the latest expert estimates, the chances of the island being hit by an earthquake measuring 6, 6.1 or 6.2 on the Richter scale are decreasing.

Dozens of tremors are still recorded in the area every day.

Due to intense seismic activity, the Greek government declared a state of emergency on Santorini, after the island in the Aegean Sea was hit by a series of earthquakes in recent days, which led to the evacuation of more than 10,000 residents and tourists.
