Three War Commanders saw the Nonsense of War in BiH: There is no Winner, we are all Losers

In war no one wins, everyone loses. This is the message of three friends, three Maglaj citizens, war commanders who spent four years of the war on three sides.

Boro Jevtic is a former member of the Republika Srpska (RS) Army, Rizo Salkic Talijan, a former member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (RBiH), and Marko Zelic is a former member of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO).

At a time of re-divisions and war rhetoric that frightens the citizens of our country, the three of them mention that it is better to negotiate for years than to fight for just one day.

Namely, they are the protagonists of the film “Maglaj, War and Peace”, a project of the OSCE Mission to BiH, which has been available on YouTube for several days.

A simple motive

If anyone knows what it’s like to wage war with and against friends, they know. If anyone knows how risky today’s mentions of potential new conflicts are, they know.

Seeing Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs at the same table talking, hanging out, and laughing is fascinating to many. They are aware of it but believe that it should be a normal and common thing, not an isolated case.

They were all deceived and damaged in the 90s

They admitted that they didn’t agree on everything either sinceeach of them has their own story, but the conclusion is the same – all of them were deceived and damaged in some way in the ’90s.

We’re killing each other, people!

”Today or tomorrow, if that happens again, we kill each other. We’re killing each other, people! No one from space will attack us. We will be small players again and suffer because of all that, ” said Zelic, while Salkic added that they were all just collateral damage.

Jevtic noted that the most important message of the film “Maglaj, War and Peace” is not to have conflicts and that famous war that lasted for four years.

”All three parties should be heard and then the right decision should be made. It is quite normal for us to talk. The first question is usually, “How did you have the courage?” Does it take courage for a man to tell the truth? I don’t see any courage in that. If we, who fought with each other, do not talk, I do not know how our children will talk, ” told Jevtic.
