[wzslider autoplay=”true”]Due to the rich history, the town of Jajce have always attracted great number of tourists from all around the world, and according to the Director of Agency for cultural, historical and natural heritage and development of tourist potential of town Jajce, Huso Hadzic, there were 100,000 tourists this year.

“We are happy with the number of tourists, and there is more and more of them every year. Most of them are coming from our country, then Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Germany, France, and lately there is more and more of them coming from Serbia, Montenegro and Poland,” said Hadzic.

He added that their goal is to reach the pre-war number of visits when Jajce was visited by more than 250,000 tourists every year, and the city was wearing epithets of continental Dubrovnik, Bosnian Venice, the city of stone, light and water, an museum under the opened sky.

Town of Jajce was mentioned in a written document first time in 1396, it was founded by Hrvoje Vukcic Hrvatinic (1350-1416) Croatian Ban, Grand Duke of Bosnia and Herceg of Split.

Even though Jajce was mentioned in written sources in the 14th century, archaeological sites that were discovered in the city center indicate that there was people that lived in the region 6,000 years ago. There are especially important findings from the Roman period, both in the city and the area. The temple of the god Mithras and necropolis from the 4th century are part of these findings.

From 28 national cultural monuments that are existing in Jajce, Hadzic said that those that impresses tourists the most are water mills on the Pliva River, the mosque of the Sultana Esma, a fortress and a waterfall that is the 6th largest in the world with its 25 meters and unique due to its location in the center of the city.
