SARAJEVO, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) received 639,558 tourists between January and June of 2018, registering an increase of 13.8 percent year-on-year, according to figures from BiH’s Agency for Statistics published Thursday.

There were 1,301,091 overnight stays during the period, a 15.3 percent increase year-on-year, data showed.

The number of overnight stays made by domestic tourists rose 15.4 percent, while the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 15.2 percent year-on-year.

Of the overall number of recorded overnight stays, the number of domestic tourists accounted for 31.5 percent, whereas that of foreign tourists was 68.5 percent, the statistics agency said.

In terms of the length of stay, the first place was taken by tourists from Kuwait with 3.5 nights each, followed by those from Qatar and Ireland with 3.4 nights each.

Being one of the fastest growing sectors in BiH, tourism brings a significant amount of money to the country’s economy. During the previous years, BiH saw a stable growth in the number of foreign tourists.
