Trivic: Republika Srpska only has a President on Paper

The president of the opposition People’s Front (NF), Jelena Trivić, said today in Banja Luka that Republika Srpska (RS) has President Siniša Karan “only on paper”, but the government does not allow him to appear anywhere.

Karan was elected president of the RS in extraordinary presidential elections, after Milorad Dodik, the leader of the ruling Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), was banned from holding public office for six years based on a final court verdict due to non-implementation of the decisions of the high representative.

Karan rarely appears in public, and at all important events Dodik speaks in his stead, whom the RS Public Service – Radio-television RS (RTRS) addresses as “president”.

“We also see that the situation has changed and that everything is not decided by just ‘one man’, but today we also have ‘another man’. This is the son of Milorad Dodik (Igor Dodik), who took over decision-making on all issues in the Republika Srpska, not only in the SNSD,” Trivić said at the press conference.

Stating that this is public knowledge, she said that it is up to the citizens of the RS to decide in the upcoming elections “whether they want to be hostages of a dynasty or they want a RS in which people work, build, create, invest and live well, in which institutions, not individuals and interest groups, decide.”
